MIFFLINTOWN -- Juniata County Commissioners issued a proclamation announcing April 14 through the 20, as National Public Safety Telecommunications Week.
"This proclamation recognizes the importance of 911 as the catalyst for activating first responders to medical and other emergencies for the citizens of Juniata County," said Alice Gray, County Commissioner.
911 Telecommunicator Marina Holderman was in attendance during the meeting to tell commissioners why their headquarters are important to the community.
"911 is the base of fire and EMS in the county and we also answer the call to any emergency in the county and we come and help them", said Holderman.
Located just down the street from the courthouse at 1 N. 3rd St., Mifflintown, Holderman and the other telecommunications companies work hard to help those in need.
Commissioners also announced that effective Tuesday, April 9, the public and handicap-accessible entry point for the Juniata County Courthouse will be officially moved back to the Bridge Street side of the building. Members of the public should immediately begin using that entry point.
Commissioners also took action on the following:
Approval of a lease agreement addendum between Juniata County and Friendship Fire Company of Port Royal. The term of the addendum is for 12 months effective May 1, 2024 and terminating on April 30, 2025. The monthly cost of the lease is $825;
Review and approval of departmental reports for the month of March, including the assessment reports submitted by the Juniata County Assessment Office, the Sheriff's monthly report submitted by the Sheriff's Office and the treasurer's report submitted by the Treasurer's Office;
Approval of, pending receipt of all required documentation, the hiring of Randall L. Spade as a casual, part-time employee within the Commissioner's office to provide security services as needed at an hourly wage of $21.76. This position is classified at less than 1,000 hours per year and are not eligible for benefits nor are they part of the County's Retirement Fund as outlined in the Juniata County Employees Retirement System Summary Plan.
