The Sentinel offers nonprofit and other community organizations an opportunity to promote upcoming events for free in the community calendar for three days before the event. Events requiring reservations may be promoted for up to two weeks before the reservation deadline.
Events that require a purchase from a for-profit business, even if a donation is made to the organization, are not eligible for the calendar.

• Mifflin County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees luncheon meeting -- noon, Thursday, May 2, Birch Hill Event Center, Burnham. Program will be the presentation of the Scholarship and Lauretta Woodson Awards. Menu: Chicken Alfredo, mixed greens salad, garlic bread, brownie with whipped cream. Cost is $14. • Mother's Day dinner --
11 a.m.-2 p.m or until sold out, Sunday, May 12, Milroy Hose Co. No. 1, 190 College Ave., Milroy. Dine-in or takeout. Menu: ham, scalloped potatoes, noodles, corn, dinner roll and dessert. Adults $15. Children 10 and under $7. Call (717) 667-2388 for reservations by May 11.

•Free community meal -- doors open at 10 a.m., meal served 11 a.m., Sacred Heart School cafeteria. Sponsored by the St. Vincent dePaul Society. Bingo to follow meal.
• Soup, barbecue and bake sale -- 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until sold out, Arch Rock Church/Community Hall. Everything will be sold cold by the quart or pint. For large orders or to order Dottie's Apple Pies, call Dottie at (717) 436-2882. Soups will be chicken corn, beef vegetable, ham and bean, chile, broccoli cheese and potato. Also, baked goods, fudge and caramel corn.
• Spaghetti dinner -- 4:30-6:30 p.m., Spring Run Church of the Brethren, 6712 Ferguson Valley Road, McVeytown. Proceeds will help pay off remodeling a wing of the sanctuary that had foundation issues.
