BMS to present ‘The Curious Savage’

BELLEVILLE -- What would you do if your evil step children had you carted off to an insane asylum in order to get your hidden fortune?
Most of us aren't Ethel P. Savage, and we don't have to worry about that - as our millions exist only in pipe dreams.
Savage was committed to The Cloisters, where she meets and begins to care for the residents. Meanwhile, her stepchildren are caught up in a wild goose chase as they search frantically for the money. Come to Belleville Mennonite School on Saturday to meet the Savages, the residents and see what treasure can be found along the way.
"I chose this play after reading the experiences of some other directors on a forum and being moved by it after reading it for myself," explained Abby Fleming, drama director at Belleville Mennonite School, of "The Curious Savage," written by John Patrick.
The curtain goes up on the Belleville Mennonite School Middle and High School drama today for performances at 2 and 7 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students.
The cast consists of Justine Reehorst as Mrs. Savage, Alivia Shilling as Fairy May, Aquila Harshbarger as Hannibal, Elijah Harshbarger as Jeffrey, Alyssa Doggett as Florence, Adair Hoyt as Mrs. Paddy, Logan Dillman as Dr. Emmett, Gracie Burge as Miss Willie, Japheth Turner as Titus Savage and Vivian Pauchnik as Lily Belle Savage.
Since Lillian Gish originated the role on the Broadway stage, this story has delighted audiences all over the world and now comes to Belleville stage.
Mrs. Savage discovers, as we do, that the inmates of The Cloisters might not be exactly who they seem to be. Nor are the staff members, for that matter. And just maybe, neither are we.
Check out this theatrical event that tugs at your heartstrings even as it tickles your funny bone and experiences the mystery, tears and laughter that will haunt you long after the astounding final image has faded from view.
