LEWISTOWN -- Road Work will begin on about five miles of state Route 522 in Lewistown Borough and Derry and Decatur Townships on March 18.
The work is expected to improve deficiencies in the drainage throughout the corridor and improve the ride quality of the roadway and multiple structures within the project limits.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, single lane closures with flaggers will be utilized for the work. Long-term signage will notify the public when entering the project limits. Workers will be in the roadway and motorists are advised to be alert for sudden stops. Motorists are asked to use caution in the area and be prepared for traffic delays.
This project involves roadway reconstruction, paving, drainage improvements, installation of guardrail, placement of pavement markings, bridge preservation work, and related tasks. Grannas Bros. Stone & Asphalt Co., Inc. is the contractor on this project, which has an estimated cost of $6.2 million.
Project completion is estimated for late October 2024. All work and scheduling is weather dependent.
In Juniata County, paving and drainage improvement work along state Route 35, near Mifflintown Borough in Juniata County between stop 35 and Butchershop Road is scheduled to begin April 1. Completion of that project is expected to be late October.
This project will improve the ride quality, , and overall safety of the traveling public by replacing or remediating pavement, concrete, pavement markings, and guide rail.
A daylight alternating traffic control pattern will be in place and flaggers will be utilized for the work. Workers will be in the roadway and motorists are asked to be alert for sudden stops. Drivers can expect short travel delays.
PennDOT reminds drivers to use caution and not to follow trucks into the closed lane as they deliver material.
This project will additionally encompass a reconstruction of the roadway, installation of traffic signal supports, radar detection systems, Intelligent Transportation System cameras and devices, pavement base drains, guide rail, piping, pavement markings, and miscellaneous construction. Glenn O. Hawbaker of State College is the contractor on this $3.1 project.
