MIFFLINTOWN -- Perjury charges were filed against a 35-year-old man after police said he lied under oath.
Terry Eugene Cox Jr., of Mifflintown, was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Tracy Powell Friday on charges of perjury, making a false statement under oath and obstruction of justice.
According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, during a court proceeding on Jan. 12, Cox testified under oath that on Dec. 26, 2023, his 7-year-old son contracted a bacterial infection after having tonsils removed.
A domestic relations attorney testified in court that the child was in school on the day in question.
Following a recess to investigate Cox' claim, Cox admitted he had lied to the court while under oath about his son being deceased.
When further questioned, Cox stated "there was a child that died sir, it just wasn't my son. I lied. Okay."
Cox is being held in Mifflin County Correctional Facility, unable to post $25,000 cash bail. He is awaiting a preliminary hearing set for 9:30 a.m. March 27 in Powell's office.
