Nittany Writers to host author
STATE COLLEGE -- The Nittany Valley Writers Network will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, in the Schlow Library Community Room, 211 S. Allen St., State College. Guest speaker, Eva J. Pell, will discuss "My Unlikely Journey -- From Scientist to Children's Author; From Idea to Publication."
Pell began her science career at Penn State as a professor of plant pathology, and became the Senior Vice President for Research and Dean of the Graduate School. From 2010 to 2014, she served as Under Secretary for Science at the Smithsonian Institution. She is currently the Board Chair of Discovery Space in State College.
Pell is also the author of ResQ, a series of middle grade novels focused on rescuing endangered species.

Observatory nights begin in April
HUNTINGDON -- Seasoned stargazers and night sky novices are invited to a series of Observatory Nights hosted by Juniata College at the Paul E. Hickes Observatory behind Brumbaugh Academic Center. Held "open house" style, visitors are welcome between 8 and 10 p.m. Mondays on April 1, 15, 29, and May 6.
These events are free and open to the public, and all ages are welcome. No registration is required.
Participants will be able to use the observatory's telescopes to observe various celestial objects, which vary according to the seasons. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the conditions, as the observatory is outdoors and open to the elements.
The observatory contains a permanently mounted 16-inch reflecting computerized telescope outfitted with an electronic camera. Two 8-inch Dobsonian reflectors and a solar telescope are available for imaging or group viewing.

Fundraiser to support Roosevelt Camp
CENTRE HALL -- The Stars and Stripes Cornhole Fundraiser to support th ePenn Roosevelt Camp and Lodge is slated for April 6 at the Mifflin County Youth Park.
There will be a blind draw tournament with a guaranteed $800 minimum prize pool. Cost is $20 per person to participate.
The event will include four games of Round Robin to set partners for a double elimination tournament. The event also includes 50/50s, Last Man Standing Airmail Challenge, basket raffles and rip tickets.
Registration is 11 a.m. Event begins at noon.
