LEWISTOWN -- Mifflin County officials honored a local educator who has risen above and beyond in her dedication to nurturing the minds of the young.
The Commissioners meeting on Thursday, marked by a sense of community pride and respect for educational leaders, centered around the proclamation of Feb. 1, 2024, as "Ashlie Crosson Day'' in recognition of her being named Pennsylvania State Teacher of the Year 2024.
"Thank you very much for recognizing me today. It means a lot. It means a lot to represent Mifflin County, our faculty, our staff, and students in Mifflin County. I was born here. I was educated here and I returned here to teach four years ago because I believe in what we do here," Crosson said. "I believe Mifflin County is a great place to raise a family and a great place to be a student. I am very honored to represent our town and our area. I am very honored to represent our state as well. I think it's important to shine the spotlight on rural schools and what is capable and what can be done in those areas. I am happy to be the spokesperson."
Crosson, whose work in the educational field has now been officially recognized at a state level, stands as a symbol of the high-quality education and commitment found within Mifflin County. This acknowledgment not only highlights her achievements but also casts a spotlight on the broader educational community in the area, showcasing the environment that allows educators like her to thrive and make impactful contributions.

In other news, the Commissioners:
* Approved request for exoneration of 2023 county real estate tax bill and relieve the Tax Collector from collecting this bill: Parcel No. 17,13-0148,003 located in Granville Township - mobile home was removed – $164.80;
* Approved offer for Parcel No. 15,13-0114–,110 located in Decatur Township that is currently in repository for unsold properties – $750;
* Approved offer for Parcel No. 12,02-0110–,141 located in Armagh Township that is currently in repository for unsold properties – $1,000;
* Approved Change Order No. 1 for the Juniata River Trail Phase 2 Project - Jay Fulkroad & Sons, Inc. - time extension for paving operations until June 2;
* Approved payment application No. 2 for the Juniata River Trail Phase 2 Project - Jay Fulkroad & Sons, Inc. – $116,255.20;
* Approved an agreement with Smigel, Anderson & Sacks, Attorneys at Law, for legal services for 2024 to the Mifflin County Planning and Development Department – $2,000;
* Approved a proposal from J-Way Architectural for the Mifflin County Library Area Survey – $5,500.00 (Phase 2-Ground floor).
* Approved the Purchase of Service Agreement for use, if needed, by Children and Youth: Pentz Run Youth Services, Dubois; Bethany Christian Services of Central Pennsylvania, Lancaster; Meagan Hopkins, Esquire, Thompsontown, Adelphoi Village, Inc, Latrobe;
* Approved the following personnel moves: Promotion of Reese Deavor from part-time to full-time corrections Officer, effective Jan. 28; Resignation of Nickea Vargas from case coordinator in the court office, effective Feb. 2; Transfer of Joshua Barger from full-time to part-time corrections officer, effective Feb. 7; Hiring of Elizabeth Morrison as janitor, effective Feb. 12; Resignation of Tanner Park from part-time corrections officer, effective Jan. 30.
