Approving staff changes was among a number of items the Mifflin County School District's Board of Directors took action on Thursday, during its voting meeting.
The board also:
• Approved of a solar power purchase agreement amendment and memorandum of lease with McClure Company. This amendment applies to the already approved power purchase rates in the previous agreement and removes the IV system that did not come to fruition;
• Approved permission to bid Athletic Supplies for 2024-25;
• Approved tax exoneration requests from the Burnham Tax collector, retroactive to Dec. 31, 2023. All other collectors received and approved;
• Approved offers on five properties in the repository;
• Approved Joann McConnell as a driver for ER Rhodes Transportation and Scott Hess for Fisher Bros;
• Approved the resignation of Miranda Schifano for personal reasons;
• Approved the promotions of Shawn Feltman to full time custodian from part time as well as Xin Miller from part time paraprofessional, learning support to full time paraprofessional, emotional support;
• Approved the hiring of Kimberly Marshall as a part time paraprofessional, learning support at Indian Valley Elementary School as well as Madison Hunter as part time paraprofessional, learning support at Indian Valley Elementary School, both pending clearances.
• Hired Jeremy Stuter as MIS Manager with an expected start date of March 4. Stutter will receive a $60,000 yearly salary. All offers of employment are contingent upon candidates successfully passing the required background investigations, completion of pre-employment paperwork and obtaining the required level of education, licensure and/or endorsement prior to employment;
• Hired Courtney White and Lori Mowery as mentors;
• Approved learning support teachers, Mikala Smith and Kimbra Shoop; first grade teacher, Heather Kochendarfer and math teacher, Alayna Fults to receive tenure;
• Approved the hiring of the following coaches: Hanna Kanagy as head JV softball coach, at a rate of $2,575 for the spring 2024 season; Hannah Bubb as assistant JV softball coach at a rate of $1,751 for the spring 2024 season; Christian Knouse as head JH boys soccer coach at a rate of $2,884 for the spring 2024 season; Daniel Schomaker as assistant JH boys soccer coach ata rate of $2,369 for the spring 2024 season; Jenna Slepicka as head JH volleyball coach at a rate of $2,781 for the spring 2024 season; Aimee Seitz as assistant JH volleyball coach ata rate of $2,472 for the spring 2024 season; Brett Rogers as assistant Boys lacrosse coach ata rate of $2,163 for the spring 2024 season; Isabella Retherford as assistant cheerleading coach at a rate of $1,751 for the fall 2024 season; Mackenzie Erb as head Jr. High cheerleading coach at a rate of $1,648 for the fall 2024 season; Ava Sulouff as assistant Jr. High cheerleading coach at a rate of $1,133 for the fall 2024 season; Madeline Rutherford as assistant field hockey coach at a rate of $2,060 for the fall 2024 season; Colleen Snook as head Jr. High field hockey coach at a rate of $3,811 for the fall 2024 season; Brenna Shilling as assistant Jr. High field Hockey Coach at a rate of $1,751 for the fall 2024 season; Bennett Kimberly as head Jr. High Girls cross country coach at a rate of $2,575 for the fall 2024 season; Douglas Sipe as assistant golf coach at a rate of $2,472 for the fall 2024 season; Carolyn Kline as assistant girls soccer Coach ata rate of $3,193 for the fall 2024 season; Todd Peters as assistant boys soccer coach ata rate of $3,193 for the fall 2024 season; Noah Fisher as assistant girls tennis Coach at a rate of $2,163 for the fall 2024 season;

• Approved of Aimee Seitz as event staff;
• Approved permission to waive a rental fee for Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association to use the Mifflin County High School Gymnasium to host the first round game of 2024 Boys Basketball Championship. The first round game date is yet to be determined. PIAA requires a fee waiver by the host school prior to scheduling such events;
• Approved electing Zeb Harshbarger as the representative to the TIU Board of School Directors for a three year term;
• Approved the following dates as designated snow make up days: Dec. 2, 2024 and Jan. 20, 2025. These will be added to the school calendar. Monday, Feb. 17, 2024 and Monday, April 21, 2025 were already approved as snow make up days prior to this meeting.
• Approved of the suspension of an employee effective Feb. 6 until further notice;
• Approved the Technical Assistance Plans developed in collaboration with PaTTAN consultants for the purpose of school improvement and the implementation of multi tiered systems of support in the areas of reading and mathematics for East Derry Elementary School, Indian Valley Elementary Center, Lewistown Elementary, Lewistown Intermediate School, Strodes Mills Elementary School;
• Approved the authorization for the director of grounds, upon review and within projected budget, to award or reject bids for the MifflinCounty Middle School flooring projects. Results of the bid award will be conveyed to the Board following the award.
