Local students feeling blues at District 4 Jazz Festival

COCOLAMUS -- For one weekend, the sounds of all that jazz filled East Juniata High School, which hosted the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 4 Jazz Festival.
About 50 musicians from across Mifflin, Juniata, Huntingdon, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton and Fulton counties took part in the three-day event from Feb. 15-17.
Addison Benner, who plays the tenor saxophone, was East Juniata's lone representative at the festival, and ended up being one of the finalists for the District 4 Jazz Scholarship.
Juniata High School was represented by Cameron Good on trombone and Maison Wolfe on guitar.
"They both did well at the festival," Juniata High School band director Brad Eargle said. "They were placed in the top two bands -- each in a different band -- and were able to work on some advanced music with a pair of really talented guest directors."
Mifflin County musicians who took part in the festival included: Alex Garner, who plays alto saxophone; Caleb Noerr, trombone; and Nathan Banks, guitar.
"This is one of the best years for Mifflin County students getting to the District 4 Jazz Festival," Mifflin County Band Director Art Belfiore said. "At the festival, all three bands performed very well."
The district concert was held on Feb. 17, and it marked the first time that East Juniata's band program, under director Brandon Houtz, hosted the jazz festival.
