The Sentinel offers nonprofit and other community organizations an opportunity to promote upcoming events for free in the community calendar for three days before the event. Events requiring reservations may be promoted for up to two weeks before the reservation deadline.

Events that require a purchase from a for-profit business, even if a donation is made to the organization, are not eligible for the calendar.

Submit items at least one week in advance via email, events@lewistownsentinel.com; call (717) 248-6741; online, Virtual Newsroom at www.lewistownsentinel.com; or mail or drop off, The Sentinel, 352 Sixth St., P.O. Box 588 Lewistown, PA 17044. The editor reserves the right to edit all submissions.

•Free Gardening Workshop - 6:30-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, Body and Soul Community Center, Strodes Mills. Get your garden off to a good start with tips to ensure healthy growth. Tips on starting seeds, making your own seed pots, rotating veggies for best results and lots more. There will be time for a seed share. Bring extra seeds to share with other gardeners. •Benefit auction -- 8:30 a.m., March 9, LUMINA Center. Raises funds for LUMINA Center programming for youth. The Center is soliciting new and used items of value (clothing, exercise equipment, used mattresses, used cloth-covered furniture and older TVs not accepted. Call the LUMINA Center at (717) 242-288 or email luminacenter18@gmail.com by March 4 to make arrangements. Smaller items can be dropped off at the Center. Larger items can be picked up by LUMINA Center staff by making arrangements. Donations will not be received after March 6 unless prior arrangements have been made.

•Coffee with friends -- 9 a.m.-noon at Lack-Tuscarora EMS, 9320 South Route 75, East Waterford.

•Freedom Avenue UMC and Shining Light Through the Darkness soup sale -- Pick-up between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the Freedom Avenue UMC Fellowship Hall, 511 E. Freedom Ave. in Burnham. Cost is $8 per quart. Soups available: ham and bean, stuffed pepper, beef vegetable, chicken corn and French onion. Baked goods will be available for purchase.

•Blood drive -- noon-6 p.m., Bethel AME Church, Mount Union. For appointments and "Rapid Pass" visit: www.redcross.org.

•Bingo -- 6 p.m., Beale Township Fire Department. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 17

•Soup and bake sale -- 10 a.m.-2 p.m. or until sold out, Turbett Grange, 12561 state Route 333 E., Port Royal. Chicken corn, chicken noodle, ham and bean, chili and vegetable available. Proceeds support the Juniata County Helping Hands, which benefits those in need.

•Community meal -- 10 a.m., Sacred Heart School Cafeteria. Bingo to follow meal.

•Fish, oyster and crab cake supper -- 4 p.m., Rescue Hose Company #20, 222 South Sassafras St., Beavertown. Takeout will be available. Proceeds benefit the ladies auxiliary.
