Looking for something to do this weekend? You can feast on Wonka bars as the curtain goes up on the East Juniata High School musical Roald Dahl's "Willy Wonka," or if something really sugary hits your fancy, learn how to tap into making your maple syrup. Check out these five events around the Juniata Valley:
1. East Juniata High School presents Roald Dahl's 'Willy Wonka'
East Juniata High School presents Roald Dahl's "Willy Wonka" in the high school auditorium, starting tonight and running through Sunday. Showtimes are 7 p.m. tonight through Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $9.25 for adults and $7.25 for students. Tickets can be purchased online or one hour prior to the performance at the door. The show will be scrumdiddlyumptious!
2. Third Annual Bill Leister Memorial Pool Tournament
The Third Annual Bill Leister Memorial Pool Tournament will be on Saturday. Signups are from 11 to 11:30 a.m. The pool tournament format is dependent on the number of entries. Brackets are plated at the Gridiron Pub, located at 32 N. Main St., Mifflintown, VFW Post No. 5863 and American Legion Post No. 298. The finals will be at the Gridiron Pub.
3. Spring Indoor/Outdoor Craft Show
Juniata Christian School, 289 Leonard Hill Road, McAlisterville, is hosting a Spring Indoor/Outdoor Craft Show, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds will benefit the JCS athletic programs. A variety of artisan jewelers will sell their wares, along with decorative items, wooden crafts and furniture, pottery, fused glass, gourmet macarons, keychains, artisan wood-turned bowls, boxes and toys, dog treats and accessories, laser cut items, freeze dried candy and treats, honey and beeswax products, handmade
crocheted items, gourmet handmade chocolates, candles, natural artisan soaps, specialty coffees and hot chocolates and organic and natural skincare and bath products. A concession stand and barbecue chicken will be available. Find them on Facebook.
4. Chinese/Basket Auctions and Bingo
McClure Pool Auctions: Chinese and basket auctions to benefit the McClure Veterans Memorial Pool will be held Saturday in the American Legion Social Room, Ohio Street, McClure. The Chinese auction runs from 12 to 4:30 p.m., with drawings to follow. The live basket auction begins at 7 p.m. Food will be available for purchase. Proceeds benefit the pool.
SteelWork Pump Track Benefit Bingo: SteelWork Pump Track in Burnham, which is continuing to raise money to build a new bike track, will host benefit bingo at noon Saturday at the Lewistown Moose Family Center, located at 80 Brady Lane, Lewistown. Doors open at 10 a.m. Tickets cost $25 in advance and $30 at the door. There will be rip tickets, silent auction, raffles and prizes. Tickets can be purchased online at everykidrides.square.site/product/bingo-tickets/10 or stop in at Two Brothers Bicycle Co., located at 309 S. Logan Blvd., Burnham.
East Juniata Baseball Bingo: East Juniata baseball is hosting bingo at the Fayette Fire Hall, 461 Main St., McAlisterville, starting at 1 p.m. Sunday. Doors open at 12 p.m. Nine cards-20 games are available. There are $250 home run and $500 grand slam jackpots. Other raffles will be available, along with a concession stand. Tickets cost $30 in advance or $35 at the door. Only 200 tickets will be sold. For more information, call (717) 439-1064.
5. Maple syrup close-up
Maple Tour 2024: This year's tour is set for Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The River Valleys Maple Syrup Producers Association invites you to experience the magic of maple syrup up close. Learn how sap is extracted from trees and turned into tasty maple syrup and other products. Tours and tastings are available at area sugar shacks and an educational exhibit by the Snyder County Conservation District is located at Faylor Lake. Possible stops include Paddy Mountain Maple, Millmont; Snyder County Conservation District, Beaver Springs; Minehart Gap Maple, Lewistown; Blacklog Maple Products, Mifflintown.
Greenwood Furnace State Park: The Backyard Sugaring program highlights the weekend at Greenwood Furnace State Park, located at 15795 Greenwood Road, Huntingdon. Visitors can learn about the process of maple sugaring and how it can be done in your own backyard. The program, which starts at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, also includes tree identification, how to tap a tree and boiling down sap. Dress for the weather and a short walk.
