Big Valley FFA brings Greenwood Village Valentines

LEWISTOWN -- Not even Mother Nature could put a damper on the feeling of love in the air. Even if Valentine's Day came a day late.
FFA Advisor Nicolette Cusate sat with Savannah Oden, a member of the Junior Big Valley FFA, after school on Monday for what must have seemed like an eternity, making one Valentine's Day card after another.
The two needed to create 128 cards in time to give to residents at Greenwood Village in Lewistown on Wednesday - Valentine's Day.
After an hour, the two had accomplished half their goal, leaving the additional FFA members to finish making the remaining cards. Mission accomplished. Well, sort of.
The weather and school cancellation threw a wrench into their Valentine's Day plans, postponing their special delivery by a day.
On Thursday afternoon, Senior Big Valley FFA officers, Olivia Fisher and Hayley Carson, played cupid and handed out the cards and carnations to the Greenwood Village residents.
It certainly proved to be a rewarding experience for the FFA members.
"I think our time at Greenwood Village was important because not all the residents have a family to spend the holidays with," said Fisher, the 2023-24 Big Valley FFA Sentinel. "Seeing the residents faces light up when they saw what we had really made me realize that a little goes a long way."
Hayley Carson, 2023-24 Big Valley FFA Historian agreed, "Our time at Greenwood Village was important because giving all the residents a carnation and a card was definitely an enjoyable moment for them."
Fisher and Carson walked the halls of Greenwood Village, providing smiles and receiving hugs while making their deliveries. It was clear that the Big Valley FFA's efforts made the residents' day brighter.
Valentine's Day certainly has a dramatic impact for the floral industry, a sector within the agricultural industry, as it has become one of its busiest times of year. Mother's Day ranks as a close second.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Valentine's Day flowers add an astounding $2.3 billion to the nation's economy.
