Bicycle shop sells stickers to benefit Coopers Gap trails

REEDSVILLE -- Chris and Nick Johnston have ridden the trails at Coopers Gap at Rothrock State Forest, so the brothers are intimately aware of the kind of TLC they need to be maintained.

That's why the Johnstons, owners of the Two Brothers Bicycle Co., located at 309 S. Logan Blvd., Burnham, are helping a small group of volunteers called the Friends of the Coopers Gap to sell stickers to raise funds.

All monies raised from the sale of the special Coopers Gap stickers benefit trail maintenance and development. Stickers are available at their bicycle shop, but quantities are limited.

"We design a new sticker each year to raise money for the local trails of Coopers Gap," Nick explained. "All proceeds go to the trail builder so that he can buy the necessary equipment to help maintain and develop the trails."

The brothers promote the sale of the stickers through social media and have a lot of repeat donors since this is the fourth year that they have been sold.

"Much of our riding and others riding takes place in Coopers Gap," added Nick, who has been riding there with Chris and other cyclists for about 10 years. "It's also a great place for hiking."

The stickers cost $5, but the brothers say donors have given more on many occasions. In past years, stickers sales have raised around $500.

The brothers love exploring Coopers Gap because it offers mostly single track trails that easily connect with one another, allowing people to plan any length of ride or hike," Chris said. "Additionally, there are several spots where there are great views."

The Purple Lizard Map of Rothrock State Forest, which the brothers carry at their shop, details all of the trails. Coopers Gap is northwest of Reedville and West of Milroy, in Brown Township.

They've also helped the Friends of Coopers Gap with the design of the sticker.

"It's a new design each year, with the year included as part of the design," said Chris, who has designed each of the four logos since 2021. Most versions have the year incorporated on them.

While the stickers certainly are super cool, the main focus is raising money to secure the future of the trails.

The brothers couldn't imagine if local enthusiasts didn't have the Coopers Gap Trails to enjoy. The trails are maintained completely by the efforts of volunteers.

"You can find people hiking, riding or running every day in Coopers," Nick added.
