HUNTINGDON -- If it's too chilly to take part in the Polar Plunge, there are still activities at Snowfest on Saturday for those who want to remain dry.
The Juniata Valley YMCA Polar Plunge and Greenwood Furnace State Park Snowfest will be held from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the state park, located at 157945 Greenwood Road, Huntingdon.
While the polar plunge highlights the outside activities at 2:30 p.m., other activities include the 5-miler run, bonfire on beach and live music, all of which start at 1 p.m. Smokey the Bear is also scheduled to make an appearance at 2 p.m.
There are some new activities this year, said Greenwood Furnace State Park Environmental Education Specialist Jen Moore. "The two new things are Funnel Cake food truck and the birds of prey," she added.
Stop by the Funnel Cake Kings food truck and the food concession stand, sponsored by the Friends of Greenwood Furnace for some hot food.
Will Weyant is bringing birds of prey from www.raptorplace.com. "He will have three different species, including Harris hawk, red-tailed Hawk and barn owl," Moore explained. "Educational activities will be held indoors and outdoors."
Additionally, there will be maple sugaring demonstrations, skins and skulls, winter science, winter waterfowl, backyard feeder birds, Atlatl and more, she added.
Find it too cold outdoors. "Come in and warm up with music by Matt Marsden, located in the warming hut from 1 to 3 p.m.," Moore said.
The Visitor Center and Gift Shop will also be open. The events are free and open to all ages.
