REEDSVILLE -- A McClure man was arrested Wednesday after police said he broke into a residence and stole a horse and buggy.
Ezra Hostetler, 33, was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Craig Weston on charges of criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and prowling at night.
According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, Armagh Township Police Department responded to a call at about 9 p.m. Tuesday that Hostetler attempted to break into his residence on the 1100 block of Coffee Run Road and that he had taken a horse and buggy and was headed toward Milroy.
Police were able to catch up to the buggy that was traveling on East Back Mountain Road, near Shady Acre Lane, and detained Hostetler.
When police made contact with other individuals in the Coffee Run Road residence, they stated that Hostetler refused to eat dinner and pray with the family and that he was not allowed to sleep there. Police said Hostetler left the residence and returned about an hour later, walking around the barn and attempting to enter the residence.
Police said those in the residence attempted to hold the door closed as Hostetler attempted to open it.
Police said Hostetler then took the horse and white top buggy and left. The horse was worth an estimated $4,000 and the buggy was worth about $2,000.
Hostetler is being held in Mifflin County Correctional Facility, unable to post $75,000 bail. He is awaiting a preliminary hearing set for 9 a.m. Jan. 10.
