MIFFLINTOWN -- For Jane Koot, curling up with a good book this winter just got a little warmer.
Little did the Mifflintown woman know when she entered the Friends of the Juniata County Library drawing, she would win the grand prize -- a beautiful handmade Afghan.
Anyone who bought or renewed their Friends of the Juniata County Library membership on or before the Dec. 31, 2023, deadline was entered into the drawing.
While Koot was the lucky winner, it's still not too late to renew your membership. The Friends always welcome new members.
The cost of membership remains the same as last year: $15 for individuals; $25 for families; and $10 for senior citizens and students. Lifetime memberships are also
available for $200.
Membership forms are available at the library.
The Friends are also selling discount cards for $10, which are good at area businesses for the entire year. Cards can be purchased in the library while supplies last.
Book Cellar Is Back
Since the Friends' Book Cellar was so popular last year, it will return again this year. The Book Cellar is open from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays when the library is open.
There are fiction and non-fiction hardback and paperback books as well as young adult books, children's books, puzzles, magazines, DVDs and CDs. Right now, the shelves are completely full, with more donations coming in daily. "This is a good time to stock up on reading material for the winter," said Friends of the Juniata County Library Publicity Chair Virginia Haubert.
