LEWISTOWN -- If the Eagles and Steelers getting knocked out of the NFL playoffs has left a bad taste in your mouth for Super Bowl Sunday, maybe Souper Bowl Sunday might whet your appetite.
Mifflin Juniata Human Services is holding the first tasty event to raise funds for the LUMINA Center's Power Pack program, which provides elementary-age school children who have been identified as food insecure with a source of food for the weekend.
"We drop off the food at school and they make sure the kids get it," said Valerie Adams, program director for the LUMINA Center, 18 E. Third St., Lewistown. "With food prices going up, it keeps getting more expensive for us to do that."
Stop by the LUMINA Center between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 11, to enjoy a souper meal. Five different soups are available: chicken corn, ham and bean, chili, loaded potato and cheesy vegetable soup.
The food, especially the soups, was made by local businesses, churches and other organizations.
There is also a variety of bread, including regular bread and cornbread, and desserts, including cakes and cookies.
There are also 85 pottery bowls, made by Hometown Potter's Studio, Lewistown, and the Mifflin County High School Art Club, for sale. The cost is $10 for the souper meal, or $25 for a souper meal and a bowl. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
Tickets are available at the Mifflin-Juniata Human Services, located on the first floor of the Mifflin County Courthouse; LUMINA Center; Sliced Deli; Square Bakery; and Hometown Potters' Studio.
Seating is available at the LUMINA Center for dining in.
