LEWISTOWN -- The Mifflin County Commissioners meeting held on Thursday saw the approval of several key bids related to the Mifflin County Library Renovation Project.
Additionally, the meeting marked the announcement of the reopening of the 2024 Act 13 Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund application process for a second round.
The meeting highlighted the progress of the Mifflin County Library renovation project. In a move to enhance the library's infrastructure and services, the commissioners awarded contracts to various companies for the Mifflin County Library Alterations and Additions Phase I Project.
Physical Plant Director, Lonnie Griffith, presented the details of the bids to the commissioners. The successful bidders for the project include WSL for general construction with a base bid of $568,407, Allied for HVAC services with a base bid and alternate #3, totaling $592,000, Benell for plumbing services at a base bid of $120,000, and Lepley for electrical work with a base bid of $203,206.
The approval of these bids marks a significant step in the renovation and upgrading of the library facilities, which have been a focal point of community development in Mifflin County. The commissioners emphasized the importance of these upgrades in providing improved services and facilities to the residents.
An important aspect of the library renovation is the temporary relocation of fingerprinting services. Because of the ongoing construction work, the fingerprinting of individuals, usually conducted at the library, will now be temporarily moved to the courthouse.
This relocation ensures there is no disruption in the provision of this essential service to the residents of Mifflin County during the renovation period.
Another significant development discussed in the meeting was the creation of another Act 13 application period. The commissioners announced the reopening of the 2024 Act 13 Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund application process for a second round, with funds amounting to $45,449.
The Act 13 Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund represents a critical source of funding for various community and environmental projects in Mifflin County. The reopening of the application process for a second round offers additional opportunities for local projects to receive funding and support.
"The initial Act 13 round one was set at $70,000 by the Commissioners. We funded three projects at $24,551, so the residual is $45,449 open for other eligible projects," Mifflin County's Planning Director Jim Lettiere said.
This decision reflects the commissioners' commitment to leveraging the Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund to enhance community development and address the diverse needs of Mifflin County residents.
Approving the bids for the Mifflin County Library Renovation Project and the reopening of the Act 13 Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund application process are steps towards enhancing the county's infrastructure and supporting its communities.

* Approved Resolution No. 31 of 2024, fixing the 2024 tax rate. The county millage remains the same at 15.77 mils and $5 per capita.
* Approved payment application No. 1 for the Juniata River Trail Phase 2 Project-Jay Fulkroad & Sons, Inc. – $132,229.33.
* Approved CoStars Enrollment form for Electricity Procurement Services.
* Approved Youth Level of Service Usage Agreement for the period January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2024.
* Approved Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency 911 Statewide Interconnectivity Funding Grant Agreement – $49,641.75.
* Mary Herto was reappointed to the Mifflin County Municipal Authority for a five-year term.
* Approved the appointment of Loren Kauffman to the Mifflin County Industrial Development Authority for a four-year term.
* Reappointed Mark Lawson to the Mifflin County Housing Authority for a five-year term.
* Approved the Vault Preservation Project Proposal from Kofile Technologies, Inc. for the deed books and vitals – $29,952.00.
* Approved the Vault Preservation Project, Phase 2, Proposal from Kofile Technologies, Inc. for the orphan's court and- $l books – $33,082.00.
* Rejected offer for Parcel No. 16,43-0080-,000 in Derry Township currently in a repository for unsold properties – $25.00.
* Rejected offer for Parcel No. 16,03-0120A-,000 in Derry Township currently in a repository for unsold properties – $25.00.
* Approved offer for Parcel No. 16,17-0380–,000 in Derry Township currently in a repository for unsold properties – $1,001.00.
