MIFFLINTOWN -- Juniata Commissioners approved agreements between the county and the human services department for coordination of Prevention Board programming and work.
Robin White will receive $1,500 per month not to exceed a total of $4,500 and human services staff will receive $1,200 per individual not to exceed $3,600.
Melissa Stewart from human resources spoke to the commissioners about the importance of this agreement. The prevention board works with local entities such as the school district in order to prevent drug and alcohol use and prevent bullying and promote positivity.
"Currently we are without a coordinator and the department has taken over the duties temporarily. This is being proposed because folks are doing things above their normal area of expertise," Stewart said.
In other news, commissioners took the following action:
Approved an agreement between Juniata County Children and Youth Services, the Juniata County Probation Department, and Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Services, Inc. The contract shall be in force and effect from Dec.1, 2023 through June 30, inclusive;
Approved the Juniata County Reentry Strategic Planning Project Modification Request as requested by Lisa Stalnaker, grant manager;
Approved service agreements for Chrystal Prosser, Esquire for agency solicitor services at an hourly rate of $97.55; David E. Wilson, Esquire for Guardian Ad Litem services at an hourly rate of $85; Zane Bilger, Esquire for Guardian Ad Litem services at an hourly rate of $85; Tammy Dusharm, Esquire for Guardian Ad Litem services at an hourly rate of $85; Brittany Shetter, Esquire for Guardian Ad Litem services at an hourly rate of $85 and Stephen S. Snook, Esquire for agency solicitor services at an hourly rate of $97.55 as submitted by the Children and Youth Fiscal department. The terms for the agreements are Jan. 1 through Dec. 31 unless otherwise noted;
Approved the tax exonerations for Mifflintown Borough and Walker Township;
Approved the resignation of Joshua R. Neff as a full-time deputy sheriff within the Juniata County Sheriff's Department effective as of the end of business on Jan. 15. With this resignation the Juniata County Sheriff's Department will be looking to hire;
Approved, pending receipt of the required background clearances, the hiring of Christopher A. Toddes as a Juniata County Children and Youth Services caseworker, effective Jan. 8. Toddes replaces Cynthia Clagett, who resigned Nov. 8, 2023. Salary and benefits will be as per the current bargaining unit contract;
Approved, pending receipt of the required background clearances, the appointment of Donald K. Peters III as director of the Juniata County Veterans Affairs office effective Jan. 16 and set an hourly wage. This position remains as a regular part-time classification at 29.5 hours per week and, as such, is eligible for membership in the County's Retirement Fund as outlined in the County's Employee's Retirement System Summary Plan. Any additional benefits will be as per current County policy for regular part-time positions.
