The Sentinel offers nonprofit and other community organizations an opportunity to promote upcoming events for free in the community calendar for three days before the event. Events requiring reservations may be promoted for up to two weeks before the reservation deadline.

Events that require a purchase from a for-profit business, even if a donation is made to the organization, are not eligible for the calendar.

• Thompsontown Area Boy Scouts Troop No. 169 chicken barbecue -- Pickup Saturday, Feb. 3. Locations are: 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Thompsontown Barbecue Pavilion; 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Mexico Market; noon-1 p.m., Juniata Valley Bank, McAlisterville; 12:30-1:30 p.m., Tractor Supply, Mifflintown. Tickets being sold for halves through Jan. 31 from any Boy Scout. Price is $7. Sides also available during pickup.

• Donut sale -- pickup 6 a.m.-1 p.m., Feb. 13, Decatur Fire Cookhouse, North 522, Alfarata. Sugar, cinnamon and sugar and powdered sugar available. $9 per dozen, $5 per half dozen, $4 per dozen donut holes. Order by Feb. 9 by calling (717) 543-0921.

• Chicken pie supper fundraiser -- 3-5 p.m., Feb. 17, Granville United Methodist Church. Benefits cancer victims. Meals will be eat-in or takeout but they must be preordered. Takeout meals include chicken pie (chicken, filling and potatoes), slaw or applesauce and a whoopie pie. Eat-in meals include chicken pie, slaw or applesauce, a whoopie pie and a drink. Cost is $10 per meal. Order no later than Feb. 9 at (717) 348-1590.

• Freedom Avenue UMC and Shining Light Through the Darkness soup sale -- Pick-up between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, Freedom Avenue United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 511 E. Freedom Ave., Burnham. Cost is $8 per quart. Soups available: ham and bean, stuffed pepper, beef vegetable, chicken corn and French onion. Baked goods will be available for purchase. Preorders recommended. Walk-ins welcome. Orders due by Sunday, Feb. 11. Call (717) 953-6352 to order.

• Community meal -- 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Pine Glen Church of the Brethren. Menu is pulled pork barbecue, baked macaroni and cheese, calico beans and dessert. Eat-in only.

• Bingo -- 6 p.m., Beale Township Fire Department. Doors open at 5 p.m.

• Free family movie night -- 7 p.m. at the Freedom Avenue United Methodist Church fellowship hall. All are welcome. Free drinks and snacks provided.
