MIFFLIN -- A notice posted on the front door of the United States Post Office in Mifflin alerts patrons that the facility at 112 Main St. is closed until further notice but does not offer a timetable for its re-opening.
In the meantime, patrons who typically use the Mifflin Post Office for postal services, including box holders, are being directed to the Mifflintown Post Office, 150 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
The Mifflintown Post Office is located 1.1 miles from its counterpart in Mifflin.
"Due to facility conditions and needed repairs, it will be necessary to suspend all services at the Mifflin Post Office at the close of business, Nov. 30, 2023. We apologize for any inconvenience this will cause you," read the notice, signed by Travis Cramer, manager of post office.
The notice, dated Wednesday, Nov. 29, was posted one day prior to the closure, if it was posted on the day it was dated.
"I realize with change there is always concern," Cramer continued in the notice. "Once the repairs are completed at this location, we will promptly re-open. In the interim, we are confident that the Mifflintown Post Office will meet all customers' needs with effective and regular postal services."
The notice didn't mention the repairs or possible date for when the Mifflin facility might re-open.
Retail and window services at the Mifflintown Post Office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday. The post office lobby in Mifflintown is open 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
