1. Mifflintown New Year's Eve Festival 5K
The Mifflintown New Year's Eve Festival 5K Run/Walk kicks off the countdown to 2024 with a 1 p.m. start on Sunday, Dec. 31. Registration begins at noon at Gridiron Pizza, 32 N. Main St. (rear entrance), Mifflintown. Proceeds benefit the Paul W. DeLauter Youth Center, 337 Washington Ave., Mifflintown. 2. New Year's Eve Morning Worship and Hymn Sing
Enjoy St. Paul's Lutheran Church's New Year's Eve Morning Worship Service with a Hymn Sing led by singer-songwriter Conrad Fisher. Worship begins at 9 a.m. with Pastor Allen Hulslander giving the message. The Christmas story of Jesus' birth continues as the Hymn Sing will give you the opportunity to pick your treasured Christmas carols along with your other favorite hymns at the church, located at Route 35 South, Nook. Refreshments will be served in the downstairs social hall. Open to the public.
3. Bridge the Memories to Ring In 2024
Mifflintown presents the sixth annual Bridge the Memories New Year's Eve event and Midnight Bridge Drop from 10 p.m. to midnight on Sunday, Dec. 31. The theme for this year's event is "PSP and First Responders." Event features ice sculptures in the vicinity of Main and Bridge streets, goodie bags for kids, free hot dogs and soup and entertainment by deejay Jim Martin.
4. Make It a Rockin' New Year's
In Mifflin County, the music kicks off at 6 p.m. tonight as Mike Weyrauch takes the stage at Shy Bear Brewing, 35 Meadowbrook Lane, Lewistown. On Friday night, Nathaniel Mowery, of Reedsville, performs at Hungry Run Distillery, 10 Ridens Road, Lewistown, at 6 p.m. James Lane Music follows at Hungry Run at 6 p.m. Saturday. Three Cents also plays at Seven Mountains Wine Bar and Stonefly Café, 6 N. Main St., Reedsville, at 8 p.m. Saturday. In Juniata County, there will be a New Year's Eve Square Dance at the Port Royal Community Building, 212 N. Fourth St., Port Royal, from 8 p.m. to midnight on Sunday, Dec. 31. 5. First Day Hike
Start off the New Year by joining Master Naturalist and Standing Stone Trail Club volunteer Kristin Joivell and Greenwood Furnace State Park Environmental Education Specialist Jen Moore as they traverse several different trails that make up the Greenwood Loop on the First Day Hike. The 2.5-mile hike is scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, and meets at the Greenwood Furnace State Park office, 15795 Greenwood Road, Huntingdon. Hot chocolate and cookies will be available.
