LEWISTOWN -- The Mifflin County School District's Board of Directors took action on the following items during its Thursday meeting:
•Exonerated Bret Treaster from collecting 2023 school taxes on parcel 16,20-0623;
•Approved per capita tax exoneration requests from elected tax collectors;
•Approved a resolution indicating that the district would not raise the rate of any tax for the support of public schools for the 2024-25 fiscal year by more than the 7.3% Act 1 index;
•Approved updated contracted daily rates for K.V. Bus Line in the amount of $3,646.07, equalling $599,284.62 per year;
•Approved the following resignations: Tabitha Royer from a 4.75-hour part-time cafe-cashier position at Mifflin County Middle School; Margaret Price from her cafeteria substitute position; Jessica Scott from her learning support teacher; Kelly Fink, first grade teacher at Indian Valley Elementary School; Rebecca Erney, school psychologist at IVES and EDES; Tyler Fink as third grade teacher at IVES; Greg Whitesel as full-time custodian at IVES;
•Approved the transfer of Sabrina Wagner-DeVecchis, a full-time paraprofessional at East Derry Elementary School to a life skills support teacher and Chrislyn Patrick as building substitute teacher at IVES; Elaine Stains, paraprofessional at IVES to paraprofessional at EDES;
•Approved the following new hires: Saundra Aurand, building substitute at LIS; Zachary Smith, learning support teacher at Mifflin County High School; Jennifer Fleck, learning support teacher at Mifflin County Junior High School; Korie Bubb, ESL teacher at LIS;
•Approved the following event staff: Amanda Hertzler, Michael Mowery, Susan Garner, Tina Everly, Kathleen Becker; Sydnee Kammerer; Samantha Gates, Cassidi Hetrick;
•Approved the following coach resignations: Joshua Parson from assistant junior high basketball for the winter 2023-24 season; Danielle Craig from assistant junior high girls basketball for the winter 2023-24 season;
•Approved the following coaches: Noah Wright as a paid boys basketball scorekeeper for the winter 2023-24 season, Daniel Palopoli, a volunteer track and field coach for the spring 2023-24 season; Holly Harman as a volunteer junior high boys basketball coach for the winter 2023-24 season; Holly Harman as an assistant junior high boys basketball coach for the winter 2023-24 season; Trent Shade as a volunteer boys lacrosse coach for the spring 2023-24 season, Danielle Craig as a volunteer junior high girls basketball coach for the winter 2023-24 season;
•Adam Stout as a volunteer wrestling coach for the 2023-24 season; Jennifer Johnson, head fall cheerleading coach for the 2024-25 season; Neil Brenneman, head girls cross country coach for the fall 2024-25 season; Gregory Loht, head boys cross country coach for the fall 2024-25 season; Jonathan Breo, head football coach for the fall 2024-25 season; Aaron Bubb, head golf coach for the fall 2024-25 season; Barrett Knepp, head girls soccer coach for the fall 2024-25 season, Keith Yoder, head boys soccer coach for the fall 2024-25 season; Meredith Schwenk, girls tennis coach for the fall 2024-25 season; Brandi Peachey, girls tennis coach for the fall 2023-24 season, Brandi Peachey, junior high girls basketball coach for the winter 2023-24 season, Alexander Monroe, volunteer track and field coach for the spring 2023-24 season;
•Approved the proposed 2024-25 school calendar, with the first day of school for students being Aug. 22, 2024 and the last day being May 27, 2025;
•Approved the purchase of cybersecurity services by a firm for the 2023-24 school year would be at a prorated rate of $89,297.50 with a retroactive start date of Dec. 15 and then services would be $181,635.00 for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years.
