First Bakers UMC to host Bible study

LEWISTOWN -- First Bakers United Methodist Church will host a Bible study every Wednesday at 7 p.m. The church will also host a youth group for individuals under age 18 on the first Thursday of each month, except July.

The season of Advent continues this Sunday. Please join us as we await the birth of Jesus. This year's Western-themed Children's Christmas Program, "The Manger," will take place during worship on Sunday, Dec. 17. All are welcome to wear plaid and/or country-themed clothing. The Blue Christmas Service will be held at East Salem Community Church (7398 Route 235, Mifflintown) on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. It is a service of Remembrance and Hope. Honor your loss, embrace God's Hope. Christmas can be a painful time for some. It may be the first Christmas without a loved family member who has recently died. It may be a time that has always been difficult. Join with us in sharing and hearing prayers, scripture and music that acknowledge that God's presence is for those who mourn, for those who struggle and that God's Word comes to shine light into our darkness. This service is hosted by the Juniata County Ministerium.

HHHO Food giveaway

BEAVERTOWN -- The Helping Hands, Helping Others, Inc. food giveaway will be held at 11:00 a.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at Beaver Lutheran Church, Rt. 522 at the west end of Beavertown. You must enter the rear of the church by Gross Rd. across from Boonie's in Beavertown. The road to the rear of the church will be blocked until 11:30 a.m., or until the truck supplying the food giveaway unloads. Once the road to the rear of the church is opened, you will be directed to park your car. You must then line up in front of the pavilion at the end of the parking lot. You will be able to select the foods you want. Volunteers will still not be asking for income limits, but will ask for your name and contact information. You may bring boxes or bags. Divorce Care and Divorce Care for Kids (DC4K)

BELLEVILLE -- Divorce Care for adults and DC4K (Divorce Care for Kids) kicked off on Sept. 11 at New Life Church, 101 N. Beech St. in Burnham and at Locust Grove Church at 3358 W. Main St. in Belleville. The Divorce Care programs runs in conjunction with Divorce Care for Kids (DC4K). In Burnham, parents attending Divorce Care at New Life Church are invited to enroll their children in Divorce Care for Kids (DC4K) there while families attending the Belleville group will enroll their children at Locust Grove. Registration can be done in advance by telephone.

DC4K is a student support group for children ages 5 years - 12 years whose families are experiencing separation/divorce. At DC4K, kids are engaged in crafts, games, activities, DVD dramas, and music. The program is scheduled to run through Dec. 11, 2023, and will feature small groups.

DC (Divorce Care) for adults is a divorce support group that meets weekly to help adults recover from the pain of separation and divorce. Participants experience a warm, caring environment led by people who care and want to help attendees find healing and wholeness in the midst of their circumstances.

Christmas Carol sing at Beavertown United Methodist Church

BEAVERTOWN -- Enjoy the Annual Christmas Carol sing being held at Beavertown United Methodist Church on Dec. 10 beginning at 7 p.m. The congregational carol sing will be interspersed with stories and conclude with a candle lighting to Silent Night. Pastor Kathy Mercado will offer blessings. Refreshments will follow the program. All are invited to attend. The church is located at 124 N. Orange St. in Beavertown.

Free movie night at Reedsville United Methodist Church

REEDSVILLE -- Free movie night is Sunday, Dec. 10, at 6:30 p.m. at Reedsville United Methodist Church, 82 E. Logan St. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome. The movie is "Angels in the Snow."

Bethlehem Broadcast at Journey Christian Church

THOMPSONTOWN -- The "Bethlehem Broadcast" will be held Sunday, Dec. 10, 2023 anytime between 6-8 p.m. at Journey Christian Church, 10110 William Penn Hwy. in Thompsontown. The event features live, walk-thru interviews (approx 20-30 minutes) with the characters of Bethlehem. This is a free, indoor event. Light refreshments and door prizes.

Nativity presented in Middleburg

MIDDLEBURG -- Enjoy live music, animals and actors during your journey through "Bethlehem" to find the real meaning of Christmas, Dec. 14-16, 2023 at Middle Creek Farms. The Nativity will be presented Thursday and Friday from 6-9 p.m. Saturday from 5-9 p.m. The Nativity is located right off Rte. 522, just west of Middleburg (134 Farmhaus Rd. in Middleburg).

Christmas Cantata at Messiah Lutheran Church in Mifflintown

MIFFLINTOWN -- A community Christmas Cantata will be performed at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2023 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 3 S. Third St. in Mifflintown. This year's cantata/musical is Bethlehem's Child, songs and stories of His Birth by Victor C. Johnson and Lloyd Larson. The public performance will be free of an admission charge. A freewill offering will be collected to benefit the Juniata County Food Pantry.

Christmas Services at Strodes Mills Baptist Church

McVEYTOWN -- The Strodes Mills Baptist Church, 8151 Rte. 522 S. in McVeytown, is having the following Christmas services:

• Sunday, Dec. 17, at 10:30 a.m. -- the church choir will present the cantata Bethlehem Morning.

• Sunday, Dec. 24 -- 9:30 a.m. Special Children's Christmas Program, "Sing A Song of Christmas." No Sunday School, 8 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. service this week.

Christmas Eve Service at Trinity United Church of Christ

LEWISTOWN -- Christmas Eve Service at Trinity United Church of Christ on Oak St. in Lewistown will be at 5 pm. There will also be a regular service at 10:30 a.m. The Trinity Chimers will play at the morning service and the Bells will play at the evening service.
