Juniata, Perry counties set to share its 911 services

Commissioners OK interconnectivity grant

MIFFLINTOWN -- Juniata County will again share its 911 services with Perry County.

At its meeting Tuesday, Juniata County Commissioners approved a $198,257 statewide interconnectivity grant.

According to Emergency Management Agency Director Allen Weaver, shared services between the two counties include maintenance, dispatch and a 911 phone.

In other business, commissioners took the following action:

• Reappointed Christopher Snyder, Benjamin Kerstetter and Todd Parson, to four year terms on the Juniata County Planning Commission effective Jan. 1, 2024 as recommended by Bradley W. Kerstetter, planning and community development director;

• Reappointed S. James Bahorik to serve as county administrator/chief clerk for 2024; Leah E. Strawser as director of finance; Jamie S. Imes as director of human resources; Donald K. Zagurskie as solicitor, Nancy C. Schrum as public defender; Michael J. Hower as director of GIS and assessment; Aaron R. Miller as chief assessor; Brenda J. Varner as director of tax claim; Ashley J. Baxter as director of Children & Youth Services; Allen Weaver as director of Emergency Management Services; Bradley W. Kerstetter as director of planning and community development; Dennis R. Hutchings as director of Veterans Affairs; Eva M. Weyrich as voter registrar and Rich Fisher as director of maintenance;

• Appointed Nicky Jay Cheran as public director, and David Clark as farmer director. They will serve four-year terms on the Juniata County Conservation District Board of Directors effective Jan. 1, 2024;

• Approved the tax exonerations for Walker Township;

• Approved and accepted staff resignations from Mary A. Speece from her full-time secretarial position in Magisterial District Judge Tracy L. Powell's office effective as of the end of business on Dec. 8; Shelly M. Haines from her full-time secretarial position within Magisterial District Judge Tracy L. Powell's office effective as of the end of business on Dec. 8;.

• Approved the board and committee appointments for fiscal year 2024;;

Approved annual wage increases for non-union positions for fiscal year 2024 in separate salary boards for those elected officials who are available;

• Approved job description changes, compensation rebalancing for Director of Human Resources and Director of Finance effective Jan. 1, 2024;

• Approved the 2023 Annual Required Contribution payment to the Juniata County Retirement Fund in the amount of $423,138;

• Approved and authorized a Fiscal Year 2024 interest rate of 5% for the Employee's Retirement Fund account.
