Residents reminded to secure mailboxes

LEWISTOWN -- Derry Township reminds property owners to make sure their mailbox is winterized for the season. This means the location of your mailbox should be accessible for mail services but also out of the way during snow plow operations. Property owners should inspect their mailbox to verify if it has strong support.

According to Derry Township, owners of mailboxes that are not accessible to the carrier due to snow build up or if it is not properly located along the roadway, may have to pick up at the local post office.

In most cases, mailboxes are placed as far from the shoulder of the roadway as the carrier can reach from a vehicle and the mailbox rests on a firm support. Mailboxes should be able to withstand the pile up of snow from the plowing operations.

Home owners are urged to check mailbox support often. Clear any snow from in front and on the sides of the mailbox. Disposing of it properly and not on the roadway. Consider using reflective tape or other material to make the mailbox easier to see during storms or dark hours.

HARRISBURG -- A statewide virtual input session will be held Monday for Pennsylvanians to discuss the draft Statewide Digital Equity Plan that will ensure all Pennsylvanians have the skills, technology and capacity to benefit from the digital economy.

The virtual session will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday and will provide insight to key plan details and give participants an opportunity to share feedback.

Monday's virtual session continues PBDA's robust, statewide community engagement effort that began more than four months ago. Twenty-three in-person "Community Conversations" with residents and 10 small-group sessions focused on unique internet access challenges to those specific groups has ensured an opportunity for residents across the Commonwealth to directly voice their needs and outline barriers they face to digital access. The PBDA will review and consider all of this input while finalizing the Statewide Digital Equity Plan.

The Commonwealth's draft Digital Equity Plan is available online and is open for public comment until Jan. 8, 2024.
