LEWISTOWN -- A Thompsontown man is incarcerated at the Mifflin County Correctional Facility in Lewistown after he allegedly attempted to grab a Pennsylvania State Police trooper's firearm following a domestic disturbance at his Juniata County home.

Kristopher Edward Deitz, 19, of Route 235, Thompsontown, is behind bars in lieu of $100,000 bail after the incident on Monday, Oct. 23.

Pennsylvania State Police at Lewistown Troopers Gregory Kurtz and Brooke Houser arrived at Deitz's home after his wife, Cora, sought a mental health evaluation for her husband, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Deitz allegedly told the troopers he would not leave with them and instead began to walk back to this house, the affidavit stated, until Kurtz grabbed his arm.

Deitz then told the trooper he would take his firearm and fought with both troopers, attempting to grab the gun, according to the affidavit. Deitz allegedly punched Kurtz in the face and kicked his knee.

Kurtz then tasered Deitz, who allegedly continued to resist as Houser attempted to handcuff him, according to the affidavit. When Kurtz said he would deploy his Taser a second time, Deitz finally relented and allowed himself to be taken into custody, police said.

An EMS squad attempted to examine Deitz, but he declined. He is charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanors of resisting arrest and making terroristic threats.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, before Magisterial District Judge Tracy L. Powell, Mifflintown.
