LEWISTOWN -- The curtain will go up on this year's Mifflin County High School Senior Show tonight, with the theme, "Oops!"
It would be a real shame to miss it, as it's a fundraiser for the high school's Class of 2024.
"We have six acts this year," so it's not a very big show," Mifflin County High School Senior Show Advisor Amanda Baker said. "We have about 30 kids. There will be some acting, some dancing, lip synching and one person will be singing live. It's like a reality show."
Not all of the students are accustomed to being on stage in the spotlight. "It's a good way for kids who never did performance before to push themselves," Baker added. "It's a nice way for them to try something new and have fun with their friends."
The theme "Oops!" speaks to people making mistakes, poor choices, unintended consequences or trying to fix the problem at the end.
Show times are 7 p.m. tonight and Wednesday in the high school auditorium. Tickets cost $2 for students and $3 for adults and will be sold at the door.
Proceeds from the event will help the senior class pay for their senior picnic at graduation.
"It's not necessarily a traditional talent show," Baker said. "We give them a script to follow. They can do whatever they want to do, but we customize the skit to them and fit the theme."
The Senior Show was started by former advisor Duane Rhodes back in the 1970s. Rhodes retired four or five years ago.
"The nice thing is people tend to come to it because they know people in the show, and they know Duane was in charge," Baker said. "People come and compare it to their show. It's a nice tradition that we're trying to keep going here."
Rhodes retired four or five years ago, Baker said. She will be assisted by Assistant Director Allison Echard.
