Local Hunger Association chapter seeks volunteers

BELLEVILLE --The Central Pa. World Hunger Association will hold its 50th Annual Meat Canning Project at the Chief Logan Fire Company, Main Station, Lewistown on Feb. 5-8.

Organizers expect to can 30,000 pounds of chicken this year. There is a possibility of canning pork on one of the canning days, depending on meat prices.

Ten percent of the meat canned will be distributed in or around the Juniata River Valley.

"We are very proud of our supporters here in Central Pennsylvania and would like to thank each person, church and business for supporting our project for the last 49 years," a news release from Rick Esh, the canning secretary of the Central Pennsylvania World Hunger Association in Belleville says. "As you know, the world has become a very crazy place and people still go hungry. With your continued help, we can make this 50th year a blessing to God's people."

The program is funded solely through donations. Contributions are tax deductible.
