Elks to host annual Hoop Shoot

BURNHAM -- An annual Hoop Shoot, Free Throw Contest will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Burnham YMCA. The event is sponsored by the Elks Lodge No. 663.

The contest is for children ages 8-13. Age group is determined by contestant's age as of April 1, 2024. Any questions or additional information, visit elks.org/hoopshoot or email bjh83@verizon.net.

Food pantry donations accepted Dec. 8

MIFFLINTOWN -- The Juniata County Food Pantry will be collecting items from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8 at the Juniata River Commons.

There will also be a silent auction featuring gift baskets and art work from local artists and businesses.

All proceeds from the auction benefit the Juniata County Food Pantry.

The evening will also include music from local acoustic musicians, including Carli Walters, Seth Whitesel, Tom Yoder, Erica Shellenberger and Willie Markley.

Cash and food donations for the food pantry can be dropped off at Juniata River Commons any time during regular business hours, starting Thursday, Nov. 30.

The pantry is currently seeking food items for Christmas boxes, including instant potatoes, canned sweet potatoes, canned corn, and canned fruit) and various personal care items, including but not limited to soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant and laundry detergent.

The Juniata River Commons is open 4-7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. It is located along William Penn Highway just outside of Mifflintown.
