Veteran's Council sets meeting dates
PORT ROYAL -- The Juniata County Veterans Council will hold its monthly meetings at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Post 298 on the third Wednesdays of each month.
Meetings will be held Jan. 18, Feb.15, March 15, April 19, May 17, June 21, July 19, Aug.16, Sept. 20, Oct. 18, Nov. 15 and Dec 20, 2024.
Post 298 is located on Main Street, Mifflintown.
Attendees do not have to belong to Post 298 or the VFW to be a member of the Veterans Council. The annual Veteran's Queen Ball will be held at the Port Royal Community Building at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8 and the Veterans parade will be on Nov. 9.
The council is seeking veterans to help with military funerals, parades and council events.

Multiple employers to be featured in job fair
BURNHAM -- PA CareerLink Mifflin County will host a job fair from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16 at the Juniata Valley YMCA, 105 1st Ave, Burnham.
The door will open at 1 p.m. for U.S. military veterans.
With the participation of more than 30 employers representing diverse industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, education, retail, and construction, attendees will have access to a wide range of full-time and part-time job opportunities. Whether you are seeking a career change, aiming to secure a better job, looking to supplement your income, starting fresh, or exploring various employment options, this event is tailored to your needs.
Attendees will find positions ranging from entry-level to advanced roles, covering professional, technical, and unskilled positions. Additionally, there will be opportunities in office-based, remote, and off-site positions.
The job fair is open to the public, and there is no cost to attend. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this excellent networking and job-seeking opportunity.
No appointments are necessary for attendees, and walk-ins are welcome.
Date set for annual Shop with a Cop
LEWISTOWN -- United Way of Mifflin-Juniata is partnering with the Pennsylvania State Police and several local organizations to bring Juniata-Mifflin County Shop with a Cop to the Juniata Valley.
Shop with a Cop is a relationship building experience between local law enforcement and the children of Juniata and Mifflin counties. This program provides nominated Juniata and Mifflin County children with an opportunity to be paired with law enforcement to shop for themselves and family members during the holiday season.
Shop with a Cop of Juniata and Mifflin County is in its third year of existence in the Juniata River Valley. The event invites youth who were victims of crime, financial hardship, or other unfortunate circumstances shopping for Christmas. The children get paired with a police officer from their area and receive $100 to shop.
Donations from area businesses and individuals determine the success of the program. Make checks payable to: Juniata-Mifflin Shop with a Cop and mail to 13 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
Tax-deductible donations can also be dropped off at the United Way office or any Juniata Valley Bank.
