MIFFLINTOWN -- Just in time for the holidays, the Friends of the Juniata County Library are hoping to give community members the gift of reading -- for free.

The Friends are holding a book giveaway from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6, in the Virginia Swartz Community Room at the library, located at 498 Jefferson St., Mifflintown, to find homes for an overstock of donated books.

The basement book cellar is bursting at the seams.

"With the number of donations we have received, the Friends have duplicate copies of books, an abundance of non-fiction and biographies and too many fiction books to shelve," said Friends of the Juniata County Library Publicity Chairperson Virginia Haubert. "There are books for every age group and every interest."

That includes books for cooks and crafters, who will be delighted with the variety of cookbooks and holiday-themed craft books, such as the Better Homes and Garden's American Christmas Crafts and Foods.

Fans of authors David Baldacci, Catherine Coulter, Tom Clancy, Sandra Brown and Patricia Cornwell will find some of the latest titles available.

Parents of teenagers will want to peruse the young adult selections for a gift for the hard-to-buy-for teen on their list.

Haubert reminds shoppers to bring their own bags and plan on arriving early for the best selection.
