MIFFLINTOWN -- Juniata County Commissioners heard a presentation by Jeff Hackenberg, client relationship manager for Penn Extension, regarding the recent hiring of a new poultry educator during the board's regular meeting Tuesday.
Torey Fischer, he said, holds a bachelor's degree in animal science from Michigan State University and a master's degree in poultry science and extension from Purdue University. She worked with extension in several different capacities at those universities throughout her academic career.
In other news, commissioners took the following action:
• Approved an agreement with Fike Brothers Carpet One Floor & Home LLC. for carpet and floor tile repair and replacement at the H. Brown Fry Building at a total cost of $11,330;
• Approved an agreement with S. A. Comunale for sprinkler and fire suppression maintenance and inspection services at a total cost of $3,066;
• Approved a revision to the policy on Reimbursement of Expenses in the County Employee Handbook;
• Approved the tax exonerations for Delaware, Greenwood, and Tuscarora Townships as per the material provided;
• Approved the CDBG-IDIS check as submitted by the Juniata County Planning and Community Development Department in the amount of $1,775.00 to Peters Consultants, Inc. for project costs;
• Adopted a proposed budget for fiscal year 2024 and set the real-estate millage rate;
• Approved, pending receipt of the required background clearances, the hiring of Rebecca L. Ferry as a full-time deputy prothonotary with the Juniata County Prothonotary's office effective Dec. 4, as recommended by Lori Ferry, prothonotary with a starting wage of $31,900.
