Calendar
The Sentinel offers nonprofit and other community organizations an opportunity to promote upcoming events for free in the community calendar for three days before the event. Events requiring reservations may be promoted for up to two weeks before the reservation deadline.
Events that require a purchase from a for-profit business, even if a donation is made to the organization, are not eligible for the calendar.

•Freedom Avenue UMC and Shining Light Through the Darkness soup sale — Friday, Nov. 17. Soups available: chicken corn with and without rivels, ham bean, beef vegetable, stuffed pepper and French onion. Cost is $8 per quart. Pick up between 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17 at the Freedom Avenue UMC fellowship hall, 511 East Freedom Ave. in Burnham. Preorders recommended. Walk-ins welcome. •Church bazaar — 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Nov. 18, Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church, 500 Highland Ave., Lewistown. Vegetable soup, ham pot pie, coconut cream pie and apple pie. Must order ahead by Nov. 13 at (717) 248-1897.
•Mincemeat sale — 10 a.m.-noon pickup, Nov. 18, East Kish Presbyterian Church, corner of Walnut and Church streets, Reedsville. Cost is $11.50 per quart, $5.75 per pint. Order by Nov. 11 at (717) 667-2806. Leave a message with name, phone number and quantity. Proceeds benefit the church’s mission and Benevolence Fund.
•Soup sale — 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Nov. 18, Milroy United Methodist Church. $7 per quart. Chicken noodle, ham and bean and creamy chicken and wild rice available. Preorder by Wednesday, Nov. 15 by calling (724) 678-6619. Pick-up during craft show.
•Thanksgiving meal — New Life Church, 101 N. Beech St. in Burnham will be partnering with Calvary Lewistown, 111 E. Third St. New Life Church will be delivering or providing a meal to be picked-up on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday Nov. 23. Take-out will be available for pick-up between 10 a.m.-noon. Shut-ins can receive free delivery in Lewistown, Burnham, Yeagertown, Reedsville and Milroy. Calvary Lewistown will be providing meals for pick-up or dine-in. Takeout will be available for pick up between 10 a.m.-noon. Dine in is from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday Nov. 23. Reserve your pick-up or dine-in meals by calling (717) 242-1481 no later than 2 p.m. on Tuesday Nov. 21.
•AARP Safe Driving class — Nov. 29-30 from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Mifflin-Juniata Regional Services Corporation (MJRSC) in Yeagertown. Classes will be held in the ground floor conference room. Saturday, Nov. 11
•Boy Scouts of America Troop 4 Grand Slam Breakfast fundraiser — 8-11 a.m., Lewistown Presbyterian Church. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, orange juice and coffee will be served. Tickets are available at the door. $10 for adults, $8 for youth ages 5-10 and children under age 5 are free with a paying adult.
•Fly-in, Drive-in, Walk-in breakfast — 8-10:30 a.m. at the EAA Club House, Mifflin County Airport Hanger 4. “World Famous Omelet” plus your favorite side dishes. Sponsored by Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 518.
•Indoor-outdoor Christmas craft show — 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Juniata Christian School, McAlisterville. Concessions and barbecue chicken meals will be available until gone. Free admission and free parking. Benefits JCS athletic program.
•LHS Class of 1965 luncheon — 11 a.m., Sal-lee’s Dream. Classmates and spouses are welcome.
•Coffee House and free concert — 7 p.m., Ellen Chapel Church. Event begins with Yellowstone playing folk music. Brush Valley Band will perform at 8:15 p.m., playing bluegrass and country favorites. Free coffee, tea and snacks provided. No charge to attend.
Sunday, Nov. 12
•Turkey meal — 11 a.m.-1 p.m., McClure Volunteer Fire Co. Meal consists of turkey, filling, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, desserts. Age 5 and under free; 6-12, $6; 13 and over, $12. Dine in or take out.
•Free movie night — 6:30 p.m. at Reedsville United Methodist Church, 82 E. Logan St. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome. The movie is “Different Drummers.”
