LEWISTOWN -- Mifflin County residents planning to send in a mail-in or absentee ballot should wait before submitting their vote.
According to a news release from the Mifflin County elections office, an error in the directions for the number of candidates to vote for in two races was identified.
"We are aware this may cause an inconvenience and we sincerely apologize," Paula Hoffman, Mifflin County's Election Director said. "It is, however, Mifflin County's intent to always run an honest, fair and transparent election. Therefore, we found the reissuing of ballots to be the most appropriate and only viable solution."
The release states that ballots mailed to voters on Oct. 5 will be invalidated within the voting system and will not be tabulated in the election results. Voters should complete and return only the new ballot for the 2023 General Election no later than 8 p.m. Nov. 7. The original ballots should be destroyed.
"If you have already returned the ballot mailed out on Oct. 5, you will need to complete this new reissued ballot to cast your vote in the election," Hoffman noted. "The original ballot will not be counted and will have no effect on the outcome of the election."
Completed ballots may be returned by mail or placed in the election drop box at the Mifflin County Courthouse. Voters are reminded to have the outer return envelope appropriately signed and dated prior to mailing the ballot or placing it in the drop box.
