MIFFLINTOWN -- Commissioners recognized Juniata High School student Lilly Harden for her service and contributions to the community at their regular meeting Tuesday.
This recognition for the 11th grade student is part of the Juniata County Youth Spotlight program coordinated by the Juniata County Prevention Board.
The Juniata County Prevention Board asked people in the community to recognize local youth that went above and beyond in community outreach work.
Kenda Haas from United Way and Sayda Diaz from the Prevention Board spoke on behalf of Harden. "Lilly was nominated for her work counseling kids ages 6 through 17 at the Christian retreat center as well as teaching the kids at the Margaret McCann School of Dance… Lilly is a dedicated member of her youth group and always encourages other students to have a relationship with Jesus and pursue kindness."
Harden spoke to commissioners about community engagement. She has danced at Margaret McCann School of Dance since she was three years old. Harden currently holds a summer job as a camp counselor and refers to her work as one of the best things to ever happen to her.
"I am very fortunate to be surrounded by the people I'm surrounded by there", Harden said.
When asked about future plans after high school Harden shares that her post-high school plans are social work and potentially special education.
