Waterline placement expected next week

STATE COLLEGE -- The Atherton Street (Route 3014) road project, which stretches from Curtin Road to just north of Westerly Parkway in State College, continues street projects into next week.

According to a news release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the contractor has no work scheduled on Friday, Oct. 13, or Saturday, Oct. 14, to mitigate traffic impacts for Penn State's matchup against UMass, motorists traveling through the work zone can expect the following during the week of Oct. 9:

A crew will place a waterline between Sunrise Terrace and Westerly Parkway. PennDOT will set the signal at the Westerly Parkway intersection to "flash" mode. Flaggers in the roadway will enforce an alternating traffic pattern;

Three crews will work between West Fairmount and Logan avenues on shoulder reconstruction. They will also pour sidewalk and curbing. This work will occur in the already closed lanes. PennDOT does not anticipate additional traffic impacts.

The contractor may reduce traffic to a single lane with flaggers in the roadway between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. throughout the week. One lane will always remain open in each direction during non-working hours.
