GFSP to host Halloween events

HUNTINGDON -- Up for some scary stories at the cemetery? How about making a pumpkin puke or partaking in Halloween science? Pumpkin bowling, anyone?
Sounds like the perfect events for Halloween in the Park at Greenwood Furnace State Park, 15795 Greenwood Road, Huntingdon, on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 6 to 9 p.m.
"A decorated trail will lead participants to the cemetery to begin their journey," cautioned Greenwood Furnace State Park Environmental Education Specialist Jen Moore. "Once they've heard enough spooky stories, participants will find their way to the Halloween-themed activities and games area."
For a spook-tacular time, nonetheless.
"Try your hand at making a pumpkin puke or putting a face on a ghost," Moore added. "Trick-or-Treat and the site decorating contest will begin in the campground."
The program is free and all ages are encouraged to attend - and bring a flashlight.
"Thank you to Bilger's for donating the pumpkins and to Stone Valley Charter School for decorating the trail," Moore said. "The students will be carving or decorating the pumpkins for the trail."
Register at Pavilion No. 6 and follow the decorated path toward the campground.

K-8 Educator Workshop
On Saturday, Nov. 11, Greenwood Furnace State Park will host a K-8 Educator Workshop using Project Learning Tree.
Project Learning Tree is a forest-themed environmental education curriculum created for both formal and non-formal educators and designed for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
Activities align to state and national standards and include subjects, such as math, science, history, art and social studies.
"This workshop is for anyone who teaches K-8 including homeschool parents, scout leaders etc. Participants will enjoy hands-on activities, from the Project Learning Tree curriculum, as well as an afternoon hike. All participants will receive the PLT Activity Guide, Trees of Pennsylvania ID guide, tree themed Fundanas, journals, and other resources. Take this opportunity to get outside, learn, and experience nature.
Participants will receive a K-8 Activity Guide, supplemental materials and six hours ACT 48. A tree identification activity and a hike are also planned for the afternoon.
