FFA recognized by commissioners

MIFFLINTOWN -- Juniata County officials members of the Juniata High School FFA during the board of commissioner's meeting on Tuesday.

Students were recognized as part of the Juniata County Youth Spotlight program, by the Juniata County Prevention Board and Juniata County Commissioners.

"Our action team consisting of United Way, Juniata County Food Pantry takes a look at the protective factors that work well for the community and recognize those who shared their input," says Allison Fisher, director of Mifflin Juniata Human Services. "We as a community don't recognize our youth enough."

She went on to thank commissioners for recognizing youth.

Sayda Diaz, director of Juniata County Prevention Board, acknowledged the work teens have put in.

"They serve as mentors to the younger generation, they help tutor some of the kids at the Junior High. These kids go above and beyond and it is something to be super proud of."

Each year, Juniata County Prevention Board reviews results of the Pennsylvania Youth Survey. They divide those results into risk and protective factors then the board takes a look at how they can have a positive effect on those risk and protective factors. They have action teams in place on the board that take on different activities.

Commissioners took the following action:

• Approved a professional services agreement between the Juniata County Commissioners on behalf of Juniata County Emergency Agency and MCM Consulting Group for services related to updating the County's hazard mitigation plan at a total cost of $94,452.50. This agreement is a separate agreement from the one approved on April 6, 2021, authorizing annual reviews and periodic updating. The cost of this PSA will be covered by the County's HMP Grant;

• Approved the Juniata County's initial medical assistance transportation Program allocation in the amount of $126,376 for the fiscal year 2023-24;

• Approved the Medical Assistance Transportation Program contract between the Juniata County Commissioners and Call-A-Ride Service for the contract period of July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024. The approved contract amount is $126,376;

• Approved the purchase of service agreements between Juniata County Children and Youth Services, the Juniata County Probation Department and CHOR Youth and Family Services, Inc., as well as Summit School. The term of each contract is July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024 unless otherwise noted;

• Approved the resignation of F. Clay Merris from his position as the assistant district attorney effective as of the end of business on Sept. 29;

• Approved the resignation of Keagen J. Wagner from his position as a Children & Youth Services caseworker effective as of the end of business on Oct. 27;

• Approved a following Home Housing Rehab Project check as submitted by the Juniata County Planning and Community Development Department for Seda-COG in the amount of $1,575;

• Approved the CDBG-IDIS checks for McAlisterville Area Joint Authority Project Cost in the amount of $3,768.75 and the Peters Consultants. Project Costs in the amount of $2,724.95, as submitted by the Juniata County Planning and Community Development Department;

• Approved payment of the Juniata County Hazardous Materials check for Wex Bank Fuel in the amount of $37.24.
