Fall festivals, harvest fests galore
If it's a fall festival or harvestfest you are looking for this weekend, the options are bountiful.
38th Annual Big Valley Harvestfest: The Harvestfest kickoff starts at noon Friday at the Mifflin County Youth Park, Reedsville and runs until 9 p.m. The Pie-Palooza takes place at 6 p.m. The Harvestfest continues 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Make Mine Country takes the stage from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday. Saturday's highlights include the children's area and more than 50 vendors. Admission and parking are free. Fourth Annual Tuscarora Valley Heritage Days Kettle Fest: All food is made in a kettle, including chicken corn, ham and bean and beef vegetable soups, chili and scrapple at the TVHD grounds, 6201 Route 75 South, East Waterford on Saturday. There's also ice cream. An indoor/outdoor flea market at 8 a.m. and crafts at 10 a.m. are among the other highlights. Second Annual Fall Fest: The Juniata County Agricultural Society Barn hosts this year's event, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Join the Juniata Indians cheerleaders as well as vendors, food, raffles, kids activities, games and more. For more information, follow them on Facebook or e-mail juniatacheerleading@gmail.com.
Atkinson Manor Community Day: This year's event runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Atkinson Manor, 2370 Ferguson Valley Rd., McVeytown. Among the highlights are a car show, food trucks and local artisans. $15 car show entry fee. There will also be music, property tours and giveaways. For more information, call (814) 514-4202.
Fall Festival at Maitland Church of the Brethren: Find family fun for all at this year's fall festival at the Maitland Church of the Brethren, 315 Crossover Drive, Lewistown, which is slated for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Activities include a hayride, inflatable obstacle course and bounce house, first responder apparatus display, fall snacks and hot dogs, barrel train, pumpkin slingshot and music by Mercy Run. Families in the Forest at Greenwood Furnace
Discover "Amazing Animal Signs" at this nature program with outdoor exploration and guided activities at Greenwood Furnace State Park, Greenwood Road, Huntingdon, led by Pennsylvania Master Naturalist Kristin Joivell and sponsored by Greenwood Furnace State Park. Meet at the park office. Recommended for families with children ages 12 and younger. Free program lasts from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. 51st Annual Juniata County CROP Hunger Walk/Run
Help the Church World Service as well as the Juniata County Meals on Wheels and Juniata County Food Pantry locally by walking from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. School fundraisers
Belleville Mennonite School Homecoming: Support the Belleville Mennonite School Faith Promise Fund by attending Homecoming on Friday and Saturday. Local singer-songwriter Conrad Fisher and his band will perform a free concert at 6 p.m. Friday. There will also be Peachey's soft-serve ice cream available for purchase. There will also be high school soccer games, campus tours and an Elementary Math Matters presentation as well as the school's traditional Fellowship Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
