MIFFLINTOWN -- Bocce ball will be coming to the Juniata County School District this year, and the programs at both Juniata and East Juniata high schools are beginning to take shape.
The East Juniata High School team has a coaching staff as Jodi Strawser will serve as the head coach and Marcus Brothers as a volunteer coach.
The two coaches were approved by the Juniata County School Board at its regular monthly meeting at the Administration Building in Mifflintown Thursday night.
The bocce program was one of a number of coaching hires that were approved by the school board. Other approvals included:
East Juniata
• Boys Basketball -- Matt Ritzman, varsity volunteer coach; and Bailey Coder and Dave Erb, junior high volunteer coaches.
• Girls Basketball -- Noah Brackbill, Molly Diehl, Adrian Fogle, Marissa Lower, Chloe Rougeau and Stephanie Wagner, volunteer coaches.
• Air Rifle -- Thomas Howard, Felicia Porch and Rob Scifano, volunteer coaches.
Juniata High School
• Boys Basketball -- Jacob Condo, Tyler Clark, Max Lauver, Kyle Ream and Alex White, volunteer coaches.
• Girls Basketball -- Noah Brackbill, Molly Diehl, Adrian Fogle, Marissa Lower, Chloe Rougeau and Stephanie Wagner, volunteer coaches.
• Wrestling -- Phil Bomberger, Zach Bryan, Tyler Feltman, Tyler Gilson, Bob Hart, Hunter Harris, Brandon Matthews, Mike Robinson, Bob Rowles, Cole Waters, Jacob White, volunteer coaches.
Tuscarora Junior High School
• Boys Basketball -- Scott Clark, volunteer coach.
• Cheerleading -- Jessica Hutchinson and Carrie Woodward, volunteer coaches.
Extracurricular activities
The board approved Angels Walters as a Student Council co-advisor at Juniata High School.
Personnel
The school board approved Levin Spade and Steven Yohn as drivers.
The board approved the following resignations:
• Laura L. McKnight, learning support teacher, East Juniata High School, effective Oct. 26.
• Chanda M. Everett, paraprofessional, East Juniata Elementary School, effective Oct. 16.
The board approved hiring the following personnel, contingent upon receipt of required employment documentation:
• Soila M. Ortiz-Viera, translator/interpreter, district-wide, at a rate of $30.00 per hour, effective Sept. 19 on an as-needed basis.
• Marissa L. Lower, temporary Level 2 paraprofessional, East Juniata High School, at a rate of $14.49 per hour, effective to be determined. This is a new position.
The board approved Bobbie L. Bryner as a long-term substitute at Juniata High School, effective Oct. 5, contingent upon receipt of required employment documentation.
The board also approved:
• Tristan A. Digon as a substitute cleaner.
• Stacy L. Chubb as a substitute nurse.
• Jessica Fisher as a member of the Juniata High School SAP Team.
• Kimberly Stuck as a mentor for Mackenzie Werner.
