SHAMOKIN -- The Mifflin County High School Marching Band was so successful in the A Class category in 2022, it was promoted to the Open Class this season.
The category name might have changed, but the Marching Huskies haven't missed a beat. Case in point, Mifflin County scored a 91.10 Saturday at the Susquehanna Valley Regional Championships - or Region 4 - held at Kemp Memorial Stadium at Shamokin Area High School in Coal Township to earn yet another trophy.
"In spite of practicing and performing five days in a row this week, the band had another fantastic performance," said Mifflin County High School Director of Bands Art Belfiore. "Today was particularly challenging due to rain and high winds."
In addition to winning the region's Group 3-Open Class, Mifflin County also brought home specialty awards for Best Color Guard and Best Percussion.
Belfiore said overall placement in Tournament of Bands Group 3-Open Class won't be known for certain until after the weekend when all TOB Regionals Championships will be completed.
The Marching Huskies will complete Saturday at the TOB Pennsylvania State Championships at McKeesport Area High School, outside of Pittsburgh.
"Everyone associated with the program is so proud of how the band has handled each challenge this fall," Belfiore added. "We have another five-day stretch ahead of us this week and then the long bus trip to McKeesport for the PA State Championship.
"I know the students will come to rehearsal on Tuesday ready to work and get better," he added.
