The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will continue maintenance projects throughout Juniata County next week.

According to a news release, the scope of the work in Juniata County includes:

Bridge maintenance and cleaning

• Route 333 in Delaware Township. Monday, Sept. 18 and Tuesday, Sept. 19. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.

• Route 3019 (Indian Mound Road) in Spruce Hill Township. Wednesday, Sept. 20, through Friday, Sept. 22. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.

Pennsylvania has some of the oldest bridges in the country, with their average age being more than 50 years. Preventive maintenance is important in extending the life of the structures. As such, PennDOT maintenance crews perform some bridge deck patching and structural repairs.

Crack Seal & Hot Pour Mastic

• Route 2026 (Klinger Hollow Road) in Susquehanna Township. Monday, Sept.18, and Tuesday, Sept. 19. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.

• Route 2023 (Turkey Valley Road) in Susquehanna Township. Wednesday, Sept.20, through Friday, Sept. 22. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.

Crack sealing and hot pour mastic operations prevent water intrusion from seeping through cracks or joints in an asphalt road, which can lead to potholes and pavement break up. They are proactive preventive maintenance strategies to prevent water from entering the roads leading to potholes and other failures.

Side Dozing

• Route 2014 (Lauver Valley Road) in Monroe Township. Monday, Sept. 18, and Tuesday, Sept. 19. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.

• Route 2018 (Dressler's Ridge Road) in Monroe Township. Wednesday, Sept. 20, through Friday, Sept. 22. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.

Side dozing removes excess material from beneath guide rail areas. This improves drainage and allows water to sheet flow off the roadway. This is an important highway maintenance operation. When drainage systems do not function properly, water collects on the roadway, weakening pavement, accelerating the formation of potholes, and creating the potential for icing conditions in the winter months.

Signing

• Various routes throughout the county. Monday, Sept.18, through Friday, Sept. 22. This work takes place off the roadway and has minimal, if any, traffic impact.

Starting at /week.
