REEDSVILLE -- A 47-year-old man was arrested and charged with the first-degree murder of a Maryland man, following a day-long investigation in Reedsville Wednesday.
Brandon Ross Holbrook, is in custody at Mifflin County Correctional Facility after being arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Reed and denied bail.
Mifflin County Regional Police Chief Andre French said in a news release that Holbrook, of Reedsville was entered by the Calvert County Sheriff's Department as a wanted person. Regional police are assisting the Calvert County Sheriff's Department, Pennsylvania State Police and FBI officials from State College.
Holbrook is awaiting extradition to Maryland where he is being charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder and first-degree assault.
"I would like to stress at this point that there is no threat to the public. Residents of Reedsville and the greater Brown Township area will see a large law enforcement presence periodically over the next day or so," French said in an email message sent to local media.
A news release from the Calvert County Sheriff's Office Patrol Bureau states that deputies from the Bureau responded to the report of a missing person in Huntingtown, Maryland.
Police said Joseph Anthony Shymanski, 51, of Huntingtown, was reported missing by a family member on Sept. 4. Upon investigation, it was determined that foul play was suspected.
After information developed, detectives from the Criminal Investigative Bureau traveled to Reedsville and executed several search warrants. The news release states that the incident was determined to be isolated and that there are no other suspects at this time.
The investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
