NEWPORT -- The Perry County Arts Council was awarded a $2,500 from the PPL Foundation to support a cooperative creative placemaking project between the Arts Council, the Perry County Economic Development Authority and the county's nine boroughs to install works of public art that engage the local community and highlight key assets, local history and culture.
As part of the grant, a Harrisburg-based artist has designed and sculpted a large-scale buffalo, which will be installed in New Buffalo, Perry County.
The artist, Jason Lyons, will use formed of found metal objects including, but not limited to fenders from tractors or other vehicles, car hoods, patinated sheet metal, gears, engine parts, plow discs, bike or motorcycle chains, and more to construct the buffalo.
