BELLEVILLE -- With Conrad Fisher performing many of his original folk, gospel and country songs, Belleville Mennonite School might find itself celebrating a Honkytonk Homecoming.

A free outdoor concert by Fisher, a local singer-songwriter from Juniata County, at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, is just one of the highlights of this year's BMS homecoming festivities.

"I'm looking forward to it," Fisher said. "I think it will be a fun event. I'm going to be playing mostly original stuff. Some classic country with a gospel song or two."

While admission to the concert is free, an offering will be taken to support the school's Faith Promise Annual Fund. Concert goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held indoors.

Offering a variety of options, Peachey's soft-serve ice cream will also be available for purchase throughout the weekend.

On Saturday, Oct. 7, the festivities start off with a campus tour at 10:30 a.m., along with the junior high school boys soccer game against Southern Huntingdon.

Seniors on the Thunder boys high school varsity soccer team will be recognized at 11:45 a.m., followed by a game against Bishop Guilfoyle at 12 p.m.

The BMS girls soccer team will battle Southern Huntingdon at 2 p.m.

The Elementary Math Matters presentation will also be Saturday at 1:45 p.m. between the boys and girls soccer games. The program is similar to "Read to Succeed" that the school does during the basketball season.

Soccer players spent time in elementary classrooms, sharing in math activities with students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Each teacher will select a boy and girl from their class who has made marked improvement or excels in math. "Those students will be paired with high school athletes and be recognized at the presentation on Saturday," Belleville Mennonite School Director of Development Gwen Renno said.

Closing out the special weekend is the Fall Fellowship Dinner at 6:30 p.m. In addition to a delicious meal and wonderful time of fellowship, the night will feature special music and personal stories by John H. Yoder, from the class of 1967. Yoder will share an inspiring testimony, "How Great is Your God?" that will both challenge and encourage.

"Please join us for this special evening, where friends and families of BMS come together to honor the Lord and share the exciting ways He is guiding the school, our alumni and current students," Renno added.

Attendees will have the opportunity to contribute to the Faith Promise Annual Fund and play a critical role in supporting the school's mission to inspire young men and women to develop their minds, build their faith and be disciples of Christ.
