LEWISTOWN — Charges are pending against a 20-year-old driver, who police say intentionally crashed his vehicle into the second floor of a residence in Decatur Township Sunday afternoon.
Pennsylvania State Police at Lewistown issued a Public Information Release Report Monday afternoon stating that Evan Thomas Miller, of Lewistown, was involved in a one-vehicle accident at 839 Alfarata Road around 3:15 p.m.
After an investigation by state police, troopers determined the crash was an intentional act and charges are pending, the report said.
According to a spokesperson from Junction Fire Co., emergency crews were dispatched to the location and arrived on the scene to find a gray 2006 Toyota Corolla wedged between a dormer and the front porch roof of the house. The vehicle crashed through the front corner wall.
Emergency crews also found individuals standing outside the residence, including Miller and the residents from the home.
The fire company believes the vehicle struck a small culvert next to the driveway of the home, propelling the vehicle into the second story of the home.
After crews stabilized the house, which sustained major damage on its front corner, they used a ladder truck to help the homeowners put a large tarp over the damaged part of the home, due to upcoming storms, Junction Fire Co. Lt. Zach Myers said.
Once the vehicle was removed there was a gaping hole in the front corner of the house. Photographs provided by Junction show the vehicle inside a room, which was filled with rubble from the crash as well as a treadmill and an overturned mattress.
Miller was transported to Geisinger Lewistown Hospital by FAME Emergency Medical Services. His condition remains unknown, as a Geisinger spokesman said there was no information available Monday afternoon.
Myers said the homeowners were also evaluated by first responders, but they were not taken to the hospital.
It’s not known how many occupants were inside the home when the crash occurred.
Other media outlets reported that police have filed the following charges against Miller, including felony aggravated assault, felony criminal mischief, misdemeanor and five summary offenses. His preliminary arraignment is pending.
The Decatur Fire Co. responded to the incident, along with Junction, Chief Logan and Burnham fire companies, FAME EMS and local fire police. Parson’s Towing Co. also assisted with the removal of the vehicle from the scene.
