MIFFLIN -- What started as a Facebook group for plant lovers turned into what will be a community event to meet and learn about various topics.
Mifflin resident Jacque Martin said she had hoped to connect with fellow plant lovers when creating the Juniata Houseplant Club on Facebook several weeks ago.
The Club is now hosting meet and greets monthly, with the first one being held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Walker Township Park, Mifflintown.
"The Juniata Houseplant Club is a place for plant lovers of any level of expertise to come together," said Martin. "We encourage the sharing of plants and advice and welcome any questions regarding houseplant care."
Martin said she is expecting club members to bring a variety of houseplants -- from rooted cuttings to potted plants.
In the future they plan to hold workshops, covering things like how to make macrame, terrariums and fresh wreaths in the winter.
"I think it's so hard to meet people in our digital world. I wanted to create a space with a common interest for people to build friendships," she said.
Martin moved to Miffin about a year ago and says she had a hard time meeting people.
"This is a way to spark that; not only for myself, but hopefully others."
She hopes to see many fellow plant enthusiasts come out to their first houseplant social and swap event this Thursday.
