MIFFLINTOWN -- Juniata County Commissioners moved forward with a budget modification that revised the project scope of a Mifflintown Municipal Authority Mifflin Hall Water Main Rehabilitation.
During the board's weekly meeting, it was noted that this phase of the project will serve the portions of households located on Licking Street. In the future, they will serve the protons of households located on Mowery and Valley Streets.
The $111,000 project is funded by Federal Fiscal Year 2021 Community Development Block grant funds.
Also during the meeting, commissioners approved a purchase of service agreement between Juniata County through its Human Services Department and Sayda Diaz for the implementation of Juniata County Prevention Board programming and work as recommended by Allison L. Fisher, Human Services Director. The term of the agreement is July 1 through June 30, 2024.
"This is an amazing collaboration of individuals and agencies in Juniata County who come together to work on preventing risk factors for the youth in our community and strengthen the things that are working and really good about Juniata County," said Fisher.
They get this information from a survey that’s done all across the nation every two years, called the Pennsylvania Youth Survey. Using that data, they determine where the risk factors are for our youth and what the protective factors are. They then discuss how they can cut down on these risk factors and how they can continue to strengthen the good ones.
In other news, commissioners took the following actions:
• Ratified letters of support for two organizations, Zito Media which supports applications for grant-funded expansion of broadband service in Juniata County, and Black Bear Fiber supports an application to Pennsylvania’s Capital Projects Fund Broadband Infrastructure Program;
• Approved a Juniata County Reentry Strategic Planning Project Modification Request for Subgrant No. 2019-JG-LS-37805 as requested by Allison L. Fisher, Human Services Director;
• Approved the fourth quarter medical assistance transportation program certification statement for April 1 to June 30. The program provided 3,527 trips to Juniata County residents in 2022 through 2023;
• Approved a plan and budget amendment certification statement for County Children & Youth Social Service programs for the period of July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023 as submitted by the Children & Youth Fiscal Department.
• Approved the Certification Statement for County Children & Youth Social Service Programs for the period of April 1 through June 30, as submitted by the Children & Youth Fiscal Department
• Approved the revised Family First Transition Act Invoice Claim for the period of July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023 as submitted by the Children & Youth Services Fiscal Department. This helps Children and Youth be more proactive and helps them to be seen as friendly collaborators;
• Approved a purchase of service agreements between Juniata County Children and Youth Services, the Juniata County Probation Department and Common Sense Adoption Services and Merakey Pennsylvania. The term of each contract is July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024 unless otherwise noted;
• Approved the tax exonerations for Turbett Township as per the material provided;
• Approved the use of the County Records Improvement Fund to purchase an Epson DS-530 II Color Duplex Document Scanner at a total cost of $361.62 for the Assessment/GIS Department as requested by Michael J. Hower, Assessment/GIS Director;
• Ratified acceptance of the County Intermediate Punishment Funds grant in the amount of $50,075 as per the Subgrant Award Notification as recommended by Michelle A. Beaver, Chief Probation Officer. This grant helps keep people out of jail which helps the tax base. They are followed by probation and parole through monitoring devices;
• Approved submission of the Election Integrity Grant Program application. The amount being applied for is $73,334.64.
