Ministry brings fun and food with carnival

LEWISTOWN -- The Calvary Bible Church hopes to connect with the community by hosting its Annual Community Carnival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 5 at Rec Park.

This event is free to the public and will include an inflatable obstacle course, live music provided by the church's worship team, games, activities and food.

There will also be a school supplies giveaway, offered to the first 300 children at the event. The school supplies are purchased with the funds raised through a coin drive at Calvary Bible Church's vacation bible school.

Organizers said the event began in 2020 as an effort to create a sense of normalcy to area children amid the pandemic.

It was held at the church the first year, but it has been held at Rec Park ever since.

"We have it at the park because we feel we can reach more of the community that way," said Cindy Ray, the organizer of the Carnival and the Director of Children's Ministries at Calvary Bible Church.

Organizers look at the event as a way for the church to give back to the community.

Ray says she truly enjoys her role in organizing the event.

"It's so much fun to plan," she said.

Last year, there were more than 40 volunteers at the event, including the church's pastoral staff, who also assisted in planning the event. It also brought about 500 attendees, making the event a huge success.
